Abstracts

Please submit your abstract ( <250 words) by February 1st 2018. Abstracts need to be submitted for both poster, and oral presentations. The abstract should be a brief description of the biology-related research you have conducted, are currently conducting, or plan to conduct in the near future as an undergraduate or graduate student. The abstract must summarize the work you are planning to present at the symposium. This will allow us to group your poster or presentation into a session with others on a similar research topic. Abstracts will be included in the PUBS2018 program so that attendees can identify posters and presentations of interest ahead of time. If you do not have research experience we welcome and encourage you to register as “attendance only”. Please register here with your abstract and fees. Applicants selected for an oral presentation will be informed by February 9th 2018.  Applicants who are not selected for an oral presentation will be assigned a poster presentation.

Posters

Posters must be no larger than 92 cm tall x 122 cm wide (3' x 4'). Posters presentations selected for Friday evening will be required to put their posters up Friday morning. More information will be sent via email. Saturday afternoon presentations will need to be set up Saturday morning. We encourage everyone to come out and discuss the posters at the social as well as network with new peers and colleagues!

Oral Presentations

Each time slot for presenters is 12 minutes of presentation time and 3 minutes of questions. We will be maintaining a strict schedule for each time slot to permit movement between concurrent sessions. Presenters are to bring their presentation on a USB drive and upload their presentation prior to the start of their session.  You should have both PDF and powerpoint copies of your presentation to ensure proper formatting. Use of personal computers to present will only be permitted in exceptional circumstances, and you will need to provide your own adapter for VGA or HDMI.

3 Minute Thesis Competition

This presentation will be a 3 minute competition based upon your research. Due to limited spacing the PUBS committee will be selecting the best abstracts to compete in this competition to be held on Saturday (Feb 24th). Selected presenters will have the option to prepare a static slide and a presentation on their material no longer than 3 minutes.

Awards
By applying for a poster, oral presentation or being chosen for the 3 Minute Thesis competition you are automatically entered in the awards competition. The top 3 of each category will be announced at the party and awards function on Saturday (Feb 24th).
